    c1 fuel pump

I have a 57 single four barrel, should there be a short rubber hose comming from the pump to the gas line leading to the fuel tank or does the fuel line connect directely to the inlet part of the pump, if there is a small hose about how long would it be, my car now has a short hose there noe I'm just trying to figure if that is correct, also what yrs. pump would work on my 57 thanks in advance

    Paul-----

There is a short length of rubber fuel line connecting the fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump. This is not just a piece of plain rubber fuel line, though. It has crimped on brass fittings on either end. These hoses are available in reproduction for a very reasonable price from vendors like Dr. Rebuild.

As far as the pump is concerned, the "correct" pump for your application is an AC type 4346. This pump, long ago discontinued by AC and GM, is very expensive in the "reproduction" marketplace. From a functional perspective, I THINK that an AC type 40018, aka GM #6415616, will work ok. This pump is still available from GM for about 50 bucks, or less. On this pump, I THINK that the inlet fitting will work with the existing fuel line and the above referenced flexible line. However, I'm not so sure about the outlet line being compatible with the existing to carb line. If not, some adapation may be necessary if this pump is used. The pump itself should bolt up perfectly to the engine and work just fine. However, keep in mind that I'm not 100% sure about the overall compatability of this pump for a 1957. Perhaps, some one else will know more.

        Paul,
The original configuration also included a 45 degree brass fitting installed on the inlet side of the fuel pump, to which the flexible hose was connected.
