Just purchased a '64 I.R.S. that was probably removed in 1969, and sat unused since. Noticed that the strut rod bracket (which bolts to the bottom of the diff /carrier case) has a 2-3/4" by 1-3/4" square of sheet steel tack welded to the underside of the bracket, at each end, forming a box-section around the inner end of the strut rod at the adjustment cam. The only reason I can think for this is as a heat shield (to protect the rubber of the strut rod bushing from the exhaust pipe).
But I checked both my '65s and don't see any, nor evidence that the shields were ever there. I seem to recall them from somewhere else (maybe my '63 of 20 years ago ?).
Should these shields be on all C2's ?
