    C3 ENGINE BLOCK NUMBERS

    Can anyone tell me what the 3970010 engine casting # indicates?

    What does the engraved V1004HW indicate?

    Why are the 2nd thru 4th digits of my vin missing from then engine
    engraved numbers?

      3970010 is a very very common casting GM used across all cars lines until the late '70s.

      V1004HW means it was built at the Flint plant (V) on April 10 (1004) and is a 350cu.in/350 hp Corvette engine.

      Not sure what you mean about missing numbers from your VIN. The first few digits from the full VIN do not appear on the engine stamp.

                  Sorry, you're right. I forgot to execute americandateconvention.exe in my brain while reading the post.

                  10/04 is 'April 10th' everywhere, except the US.
