Sure, you can pull the inner cable. Plus, while you're at it you might want to flush old dried lubricant out of the existing outer sheath so you're not mixing fresh with old lube. See your local autoparts store for a good quality speedo cable lube. Should be an off-the-shelf item!- Top

Yes, it should only come from the tach end. If you have real good dexterity and your threads are good on the tach and cable, you may be able to unscrew the cable and get the inner cable out without removing the IC. I have done this before, but it is real tight. I basically had to use a finger on each side of the cable nut and fortunately, it wasn't very tight. I was probably lucky. If you can get it loose on the tach end, take the other end off the distributor and pull it back to get access to the inner cable. Pull it out to lube and also spray some cleaner through the casing to get the old crud out.- Top
