I was researching this subject in the archives and found a post stating that all 1969 Chevrolet protecto-plates contained the same information, on the same lines, in the same order, etc. Can someone confirm this?

Re: 1969 protecto-plate
The protect o plates were a smooth piece of metal that were stamped by an address o graph machine (similiar to what they did dog tags with). They set it up with grids that were 30 spaces wide and most data was on three lines. Each item they were trying to capture (vin # for example) will have a specific place on a specific line. There is a protect o plate decode book out on the market now that shows what is stamped for each year. The assembly guide also has a place in it that shows the grid and what is stamped. I've found that you need both the decode book and the grid from the assembly guide to really know where things go. 69 is unique and different from 68, as in 69 they omitted a few things (interior code for example). If memory serves me well, they did not stamp codes for the radio, etc. on Corvettes, but they did on regular chevrolet cars. Don't have my book here at work.

What Model car are you looking at the info for? Drop me an email and I'll send you a scan of the Parts book where the POP for that specific vehicle is described.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 1969 protecto-plate
I appreciate the posts and the emails. I've been researching this and it seems the AM is generic, i.e. the actual protecto-plates were stamped with less information than shown in the AM. The p-o-ps I've seen have no radio code, etc. I've also seen the other decode books, etc. It seems that in 1969, other Chevrolet cars had a lot more information coded than did Corvettes. That's why I was looking for some actual examples. Again thanks to all.- Top

Re: 1969 protecto-plate
Corvette pop's did not have codes such as radio and colors etc listed on the protecto plate as other cars such as camaro's and chevelles. I have some examples of original pop's that I can email you if you need them. Corvettes are different than other gm vehicles. Hope this helps.- Top
