Teak Steering Wheel

I searched the archieves, but didn't find anything. I seem to struggle with the search function anyway. Can anyone elaborate on the quality of the aftermarket mid year teak steering wheels offered by the resto houses. Are they worth the $545? What is the quality in matching originality and quality of the metal spokes?

I cannot speak for all that reproduce the teak wheels, but Eric Freeman does an impeciable job with his. Dead on reproduction

Much less than a few years ago. Since these quality reproductions have been made, particularly those made from original tooling, prices on originals haven't seen their highs like in the late 1980's and early 1990's.

Original Teak Wheels sold for about $1500.00 but the reproductions have reduced the demand for originals. Reproductions run about $595.00.

I just saw an original on ebay that went for over $2,000. I love originality just like the next guy, but for a difference of about $1500, I'll stick with my repro!

I sold a super nice original 12-15 years ago for $1000 and then bought another as nice for $600 only 3-4 years ago. Originals are out there but best to buy at a show or meet. Not eBay. Good luck. Jim

I am reading these posts with some disbelief. When I bought my 68 12 years ago, I didn't know it had a 65 teak steering wheel until a local Corvette shop tried to remove it from my car in exchange for the correct 68 wheel while it sat parked in his lot. I took the wheel to Carlile that year but got only a few inquiries. I would like to know what the value of an original teak wheel in need of some tlc is worth. Anyone care to venture a guess?

You read the prices above and they may even be enhanced by the fact that yours has never been restored.

Put it on e-bay and cash the check!
