C-1 Weatherstrip Retainer Orientation

Getting ready to install all new weatherstriping but I did not see it come off. The metal retainers have a small lip on one edge. In which direction should this face; towards or away from the weatherstrip, and on the edge facing towards the car or away? The car is a 1961.

If you are coming down the door post, the clips face inward towards the seats. Away from the weatherstrip.
