'62 air cleaner lid dings and arrestor questions

Now the kids are to bed, here's the aircleaner lid, in all its glory. It's got the nice little brass grommet, but there are more than a few dings, and I can guar-an-tee that I'd just make it worse. Given the significant # of points given to the air cleaner, is there anyone that will re-work these to flatten the dings? The lid has clearly been cleaned up but I wonder whether the expertise exists to make it flat again and polish it out without overdoing the shinyness?
(PS- ignore the cookies in the upper right corner!)

I have also included a link to a shot of the underside, and there's (obviously) no fiber material under the flame arrestor. I'm probably hallucinating (or it's wishful thinking) but I swear I read somewhere that the '62's didn't have the fiber?

      EDIT: arrestor

I found the arrestor resference, page 331 in Noland's book, stating that the '62 air cleaner (P/N 5648423) has no fiber mat.

        Re: EDIT: arrestor

Noland also says that 62's came without the anti-squeak springs around the brake drums. He made that assumption because the call-out for adding those was eliminated. Wrong assumption. All that meant is that the manufacturer was now putting the springs around the drums, not St. Louis.
I don't know his rationale for no fiber in the air cleaner, but I can tell you for sure that 62's most certainly DID come with fiber flamer-arrestor material in the air cleaner. Too many too original cars, including one owner cars have the material.
So, unfortunately, Rob, you're back to wishful thinking, in spite of what Noland says.

          Mike-

Thanks for the reply! Not a problem, except A) I've never seen a source for the fiber, and B) if I could find it, how could it be installed without removing the grommet?
