    GM China

    Just returned from Hong Kong!

GM China received good press at the Shanghai auto show.

China is looking to establish its own identity car! This is the perfect opportunity for GM to develop the car that everyone in China will want...now is the time!

Years from now..Chinese will remember their first it car..whatever 'it' becomes.

GM needs to act fast as other suppliers are also in the game.

The upscale market is also wide open and there are plenty of buyers.

Watch for China to start buying up collector cars!

    Joe...

Looks to me like the GM (profits) better start looking for a spot in the USA market before China gets here. Parts first then the assembly.

Either we start making cars in China for China or soon China will start making cars here.

It is only a matter of time before they get up to speed. In the meantime they can finance a supplier of choice. Why let it be Toyota or Honda?

Japan was underestimated and they took about 40% of the market.

I just read somewhere that Buick is a recognized brand in Asia and China. So they do have somewhat of a presence there now.

They build a version of the LaCrosse. They basically tooled up off our designs except upgraded the interior. Buick is the premium brand in China. Their past emporers(sp) are in photos in their Buicks. Lots of heritage there. GM tried to get them to use Cadillac but they wanted Buick.

              Chris

I have seen the Buick Lacrosse type cars in Mainland China and they actually look good. Mostly all black.

However The young people are looking for something modern..not the american fathers oldsmobile. The successful factory owners mostly drive Mercedes as they do in HK.

The introduction of the cell phone and the internet opened up pandoras box..and with a hot economy there is money to spend.

The supplier that comes up with a car to fit the dreams of the young China couple will hit the jackpot..

GM is now bringing in the Cadillac to compete at the higher end.
