De-rusting engine stamp pad

Who has derusted their stamp pad successfully? This pad was cleaned years ago, I am told, but then allowed to sit. It's in the car, and has some issues so that it is hard to see the stamping (original motor). Any ideas on how to do that and/or what to use? Naval Jelly. Chemical? And then, protect it with?
I'm not trying to make the pad look new (don't want that) but need to be able to see stamping and broach marks.

metal prep snf toothbrush and elboe grease. then smear it with white petrolatum. is this one of your blocks that you left out in the rain too long after the restamp? regards, mike

Use PreLube 6 from Quanta Products. It protects a long time, can be rubbed off if you want someone to view your pad. It looks like heavy duty WD40 but lasts much longer and is more durable.

I rebuilt a master cylinder that was pretty rusty inside. I flushed it with CLR
calcium, lime, rust remover. It worked great and you can get it at the grocery store if you don't have it under the sink already.
