    C2 Instrument Cluster Wiring

On the back of the cluster, should there be clips of some kind at the top of the speedo and tach to help route the wiring? I just pulled the cluster from my '64 and found two empty holes up there, and they are not threaded.

Mark, if your 64 is like my 63, the clips are taped into the main part of the harness that passes behind the upper part of the cluster. They do break easily. Check your harness to see if they are there, if they are not you can add them easily. If you do not have them, look around for an old harness that has been parted out. Let us know as someone may have a few around.

I see only one item that could be a clip. Yellowish-white plastic, short dimple to go into the hole on the cluster, longer wings on top that could have been covered with harness tape. But, the harness wires that run to the cluster are completely untaped, and the clip is broken. Did these clips hold the lamp wires up?

        Mark,

I suspect that someone has removed the wire wrap (not tape) that covered the upper bundle of wires in your car. The plastic clip you describe is similar (if not identical) to one that presses into a hole on the generator to hold that wiring harness in place as well. My generator clip was broken when I bought my car and I couldn't find a replacement for the longest time, but last year I found one at a swap meet (might have been Carlisle) from one of the small parts merchants displaying tables covered with boxes of various clips, tec. Dr. Rebuild might have them as well.

        Good luck
