Looks like the one that Jack Murray owned. If so, I know the car and it's the real thing.

      Michael:

It is. Looks like time has finally arrived for the LS-6's. In Bloomington last year, I went to the auction with the intent to buy a ZR-2. The ontario orange convert was way to modified for my taste, replacement block, et al. Bid to $210,000, did not meet reserve. This car was a M22, 3:55 ratio.

The steel cities gray ZR-2 coupe, I bid to $175,000. Reserve was $200,000, this car was a M22, 4:11 ratio. Both cars had factory paperwork, although not as much as the Brands Hatch green convert.

Barrett-Jackson's showroom was consigning a Warbonnet yellow ZR-2 coupe for $395,000, a very nice example.

            Warren,

Thought so. Jack had that car parked right next to us in the show area at the Laguna Seca/Monterey event in the late 80's. Have to dig out the pic's.

What is the "C" character at the start of the VIN derivative stamping (it's also on the trans)?

                Everett -

"C" is normally the prefix letter for the VIN derivative stamping for a Chevy truck.

The VIN derivative stamp for most, but not all, 1971 Corvettes is C11S1XXXXX. The 1970-1972 TIM&JG even gives the earlier form of the derivative and the approximate change point.
If that is Jack's car I know it well, and second Michael M's opinion. I never saw it in California though. Those were the good old days of the Outlaw Racers.
