    C-1 Setting Rivets

I am replacing the core support extensions ( fresh air inlet/blank) on my '58 and am puzzled as how to set the round head aluminum rivets. Do I need a special tool ? I have a rivet setting tool ordered from Corvette Central (C.S.Osborne & Co.) but can't use since I cannot put the work on a flat solid surface. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks
    Dwight

I've had good luck by drilling a concave hole in the flat side of a metal chissel and placing it on the round side. Then hit the other side cut to length with a hammer. It works best with 2 people one doing each side. I did my air intake braces and mant others that way and worked well. Tom

        Dwight...

If you want to get in the rivet business, get an air hammer, rivet-set shank, ( CC's may due) and a steel back-up block. set the air at 15 - 35 psi and use another person to hold the back-up block.

I use a regulator at the gun; great selection of rivet set shanks at www.aircraft-tool.com .

Dennis/John, thanks -- I have an air hammer but did not know that there is a rivet-set attachment - I will give it a try.
            Thanks
