    oil pressure guages

Does anyone know, on 1967 Corvette models, which engines had the 60 lb. oil pressure guage, and which engines had the 80 lb. guage ? Ive heard some 427 engines had the 60 lb. guage. Is this true ?

    Re: oil pressure guages

You go year by year, based on info in the respective Judging Guide books. In general, cars with high reving, solid lifter, engines used the higher 80 lb oil gauge...

      So, what your saying is, the 327, 350 H.P. and 427 435 H.P. ( both with solids ) ONLY had the 80 lb. guage in 67 ?

        Frank,

The only engines in 67 that had an 80 lb guage were the solid lifter 427's. All other engines, including the 350 HP 327, used a 60 lb guage.

If thats true my 67 427/400 has 80 lb. gage that is wrong.

It must be an incorrect gauge, as the 400 horse motor had hydralic lifters.

              Re: oil pressure guages

According to the '67 AMA Specs all 427 CI engines normal oil pressure is 50-75 psi at 2000 RPM.

All 327 CID engines normal oil pressure is 30-45 psi at 1500.

The implication here is that all 427s have a 80 psi gage and all 327s have a 60 psi gage.

                No...

I said read the JG book because what oil gauge was used varied with time. Then, I went on to make a loose generalization about higher reving engines and the peak oil pressure they could develop as a result. For mid-year cars, here's what the book(s) say:

                1963 All early cars= 60#, all later cars= 80# (all were SB's)
                1964 All= 80#
                1965 365, 375, 425 HP cars= 80# (all solid lifter), the rest were 60#
1966 425 HP BB= 80# with the balance being 60# (some disagreement exists)
                1967 430 and 435 HP BB= 80# with the balance being 60#

                  Re: No...

66 390 horse known original 80#. Earlier thread seems to indicate that majority (or at least a substantial number) of 66 390 hp had the 80# gauges.
