    C1 (1962) Driveline Vibration

First ride of 2005 yesterday. Of course, I've got to "get on it" a little bit. Cleans out the cobwebs. I've always had a harshness in the driveline. But now, under hard acceleration, there's much more - a whole higher level of magnitude. Almost like something is scraping, or hitting something, or vibrating wildly. This condition goes away when you let off the gas. After letting off the gas and then going back to steady cruise, the car bucks.

Feels like bad U-joints. But they're new. I have not been able to get under the car to check them. What else should I look for? I did a lot of work on the drivetrain last year. Pilot bearing, throwout bearing, clutch, flywheel, rebuilt T10 transmission, balanced driveshaft, U-joints, everything. I still haven't figured out how to check the U-joint angles. But I do have the correct shims between the mount and the frame.

    Chris,

Does it still vibrate if you push in the clutch and let the engine idle while at speed?

Did you have the clutch and flywheel balanced?

check to make sure the new u-joints are centered in the yokes.
check for movement up and down in the transmission tailshaft.
check for movement in the pinion.
make sure the ujoint is centered in the pinion yoke.
