    58 rebound straps-something amiss?

the last thing to do on my frame restoration was the rebound straps. I got the parts and the rivet tool from Paragon and set out to finish the job. After getting one side done, there is virtually no free play in the rear springs up and down. the straps are very tight. I know one the body gets back on it will force the frame down, but this just doesn't seem right. Comments, please!

It's right ! when the body and all the parts are installed , it will have play.

The purpose of the rebound straps is to prevent the rear axle from dropping too far. Did you install the drive shaft before you installed the rebound straps?

Full extension of the rear axle (down) may cause contact between the drive shaft and the X member of the frame.

At normal loaded ride height, you should have about 2" of air between the bottom of the axle tube and the strap.
