What color is the bottom (inside) of the hood painted? I have a 76 and it looks like it was black, but I also see some silver ( original and repaint color) and I don't know if that was from overspray from the bad repaint or if it was original?

The underhood paint was originally semi-flat black. Quanta, as part of their "System 5" black paints, has a semi-flat available which will work well. It is available in spray cans or quart cans.In Appreciation of John Hinckley -

As I remember it the Body colour was done first then the black out is applied with the Edges protected by masking. The other day while attending a Tech Seminar "Bob Shell" who was in charge of Painting at St. Louis and Bowling Green at it's beginning mentioned they used Suran Wrap for some masking.Comment

I don't doubt your statement but I would think that lacquer thinner would dissolve saran wrap in an instant, has anyone tried this ?
