I am restoring a 58 for judging and when I went to reinstall the windshield, I found that it is not the correct dated windshield for the car. It appears that the windshield was replaced sometine in its history. Otherwise, it is in good condition. My question is how many points are associated with the windshield and is it worth buying a high priced dated replacement for an otherwise good windshield. Any thoughts are appreciated and thanks in advance.

Re: 58 Windshield and judging
Last I looked at the Flight Score Sheet in this area the windshield had 20 points for originality and 20 points for condition. In the absense of any specific scoring instructions (either in the Judging Guide for the specific year/car, or in the NCRS Judging Reference Manual), NCRS policy is to view the item along five dimensions: Finish, Date, Installation, Configuration and Completeness. A 'violation' of any axis surrenders 20% of the available originality points.
So, a windshield correct in all other respects EXCEPT its date code would forfeit the Date criteria and cost 20% of 20 or 4 points from the originality column for this item. The question of whether it's worth it to buy a reproduction windshield to reclaim these points is one of restoration economics and different individuals will have different levels of pride and need for judging points...- Top

I suggest checking the Judging Reference...
...Manual. It is quite specific about the percentage of points to be deducted on glass. On a C1, date, manufacturer & tinting all play into the equation. Personally, I've felt for a long time that the reproduction glass costs more than it needs to. JMHO.- Top
