    Carpet question 65 Coupe

Hello everyone! We are nearing the completion of the carpet installation in our 65 coupe. Since my older carpet was probably not correctly installed I need your help on the rear quarter trim panels. Do the quarter panels go over or under the carpet? If I read the AIM correctly it looks as though they go over the carpet but it's not really clear to me. Appreciate hearing from any of you coupe owners who know the correct routing of the carpet in that area!
    Thanks in advance!

    67 Coupe

    Dave,
Here's a shot of my 67 inner rear, passenger side carpet. I am missing the piece of material that is glued up below window, but all else is as it left the factory! It seems the sides were done first and the back piece next that has the plastic border. I haven't touched anything, so this is how it looks from the assembly line, of course well-aged.

Justin: Is this site cool or what? Bet you are the only guy in the NCRS that already had that photo in your collection!

      Good work!

          Dave,

--------The first picture is correct. As well, there is a very small screw that secures the carpet to the panel only, not thru the panel. Get the screw from Long Islands catalog so as not to use the wrong one. Im pretty sure the screw goes thru the carpet about an inch in from both the top and the rear edge. Hope this helps!..........Bill S

              Dave,
This is all I have intil I go out to the car. I'm trying to get out there, but things have been hectic around here(taxes, Fire academy,5 month old)! I can explain the original hardware for the quarter trim, but I haven't seen the screws for carpeting at that particular spot. Here's a clear shot of the factory paint for two-tone interior and a pinch weld cap. I'll shoot some more pix soon!

------If you look closely you can see the screw I mentioned in your picture!!!!!..........Bill S

--------I should have mentioned that the old carpet has apparently been pulled away in this picture. This is common as a lot of people dont see the screw there when pulling on the carpet. The carpet, being old, pulls away leaving the screw still in the panel. Hope this helps!........Bill S

                    Re: 67 Coupe

OK guys, I've got more questions. I was studying the AIM last night and it appears to show that the screw in the bottom of the quarter panel goes through the sill and into the frame. Gives a spec for 0.204/0.207 hole if my aging memory serves me correctly (don't have an AIM with me). Gives part #'s for the various screws but I have no way to reference that to the screw dimensions. I have qtr panel screw sets from some vendors and they include a fairly large, short lag type screw with a hex head in addition to the small screws. Is that for installing the panels in a convertible???

So, into the qtr panel only, or, through the panel and into the frame? My car has holes in that location, but they could be from any PO improvising the fit.

                    Thanks for the help!

In my 65 coupe, the large, short lag screw with hex head goes thru the panel into the sill plate and frame rail. then the small trim screw goes thru the carpet into the trim panel and is hidden by the carpet material. Can measure items if needed.

Here is another photo of an original carpet installation. Note the chrome phillips pan head screw with integral v shaped washer is barely visible.

-------Im pretty sure that the placement of that little pan-head was sort of random. Nicks location is excellent but it could have roamed around a bit as the assembly line workers mandate was just to get a screw in there someplace............Bill S

I agree as evidenced by this photo of the same car, right side. The screw is lower and the carpet cuts are there but shifted and shadowed by perspective.

Did JPS supply the carpet with some or no pre cuts or was all the t******* done on the line?
