re power antenna repair supplies jack humphrey repair can be done without a professional rebuild depending on what's wrong with your antenna typical failure mode is for water to get inside the motor wind canister and rot the steel cable causing breakage max stress occurs when antenna is run all the way up down and you don't let off on the switch if you remove the power antenna assy you'll find the case is sealed against the elements the coating can be removed with razor blade artist's knife set it aside now you can open the access panel to the cable windup compartment if you're lucky it won't be rusted to and the break in the cable will be visible you can repair by cleaning fresh lube and spot tig weld the cable at its break then you close 'er up and re coat the canister by melting the original coating and dipping if you don't have enough material to fully re coat with bees wax works a ok and can be gotten from your local billard table guy that's right pool tables they use bees wax to seal the joints between multi piece slate marble slabs forming the table's bed surface also folks who specialize in correct body repair of german cars mercedes bmw audi use it to wick body seams to prevent rust squeaks but the most frequent break point for the antenna cable is up inside the antenna shaft itself this is where the professional rebuilders come in they typically cut the knurled end of the antenna shaft and install a fresh one with new cable there you're out in left field as the parts are not sold to my knowledge i have heard stories of guys fixing their own units by going to the hardware store and buying nylon cord weed wacker of similar diameter to the original steel cable cutting an appropriate length of the cord collapsing the antenna mast squirting epoxy glue being careful to only get it into the final mast stage then sticking the nylon cord inside and let it bond into place
