Re: 70 C3 clutch question
Travis-----
The friction disc will likely not deteriorate to the point of becoming unserviceable unless you leave it unused for a LONG time (like, MANY years). However, the friction disc will often stick to the flywheel after a significant period of non-use. If this happens it may require disassembly. However, it's unlikely that flywheel, pressure plate or, even, the friction disc would be ruined. After seperation, a little attention with a wire wheel and fine sandpaper will have them back to usability. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 70 C3 clutch question
Travis clutch disc is pretty tuff. I replaced the clutch and pressure plate in my 68 back in 1972 and it is still is use today. What has happened twice in this time period is the clutch sticking like Joe mentioned. The car had only been sitting on the carport for long periods and with the humity high enough some mornings the carport was damp I believe this contributed to the clutch sticking. I would break it loose by driving the car. My driveway was enough of a grade that I could start it in gear and get it to break loose. Sure makes a scary noise when it does. This has not happened in the past 15 years with the car in a garage. The reason the orignal clutch did not last was my wife slipped the clutch so much during the first four years of her driving the 68 one side had a lot of abnormal wear. She has not drive it much at all after I repaired it.- Top
