Who manufacturered the G70-15 tires that equipped the 1974 Corvettes? I'm interested in learning this information as it would relate to the vehicle production date of Jan.11,1974. Thanks.

Re: G70-15 Tires (Goodyear or Firestone?)
Your copy of the '73-74 Judging Guide tells you Goodyear supplied Steelguard tires while Firestone supplied "Steel Radial 500" tires in GR70-15 size for Corvette. Further, BFG and Uniroyal had similar offerings but both manufacturers deny supplying Corvette tires.
A wrinkle of interest is Firestone had reliability problems with their tire (incidents of tread separate at the steel belts) and a recall initiated with the replacement tire being a Firestone 721 Steel Belt & NCRS recognizes these replacement tires without penalty...- Top

Re: G70-15 Tires; Firestone/Recall
My 75 had Firestone 500 on it from the factory, by the time they had the recall I had already got all the good out of them, about 35,000 miles. The spare was still new, they would have given me a replacement tire for it but not for the worn out other four. the replacement tires weren't issued if you had one half tread life or less. That is what I was told in early to mid 77 I think. Either way I didn't get any new tires.- Top

Re: G70-15 Tires (Goodyear or Firestone?)
Note that the factory size was GR70-15, the 'R' meaning Radial. Pre-'73 tires were bias ply.- Top
