    Re: Welcome Back,Testing for Cookies

    Lou,

I think the cookies are working now. I found an addressing problem on this end that I.E. could tolerate, and Netscape would not. I don't have a clue about AOL browser yet. Someone with AOL please let me know.

    Re: Welcome Back,Testing for Cookies

Well, using the aol browser, the text is purple until it is scrolled through once, then it turns to yellow. I'll let you know about the cookies in a subsequent post (have to log out and back in again to test).

John: sorry, but the cookie did not remember name or email. I had no problems before the migration.

        Re: Welcome Back,Testing for Cookies

        Mark,

I assume that you are using the AOL Browser. There seems to be two issues with that browser that are giving me fits. First cookies! I have Netscape Navigator on my system, so I have checked it out. It seems to be fixed as far as cookies are concerned. I am going to hold off for a day or so on cookies for AOL to make sure whether they are 1. Not working, or 2. Intermittent. The purple color thing is another issue. Was the purple color a problem before we switched to the new server? I don't know of anything that changed that could affect colors, in the move. Check the www.ncrs.org pages to see if the colors there are purple. We use the same color definition here as is used on those pages, which are still on the old server for now.

Let me know and that will give me a starting point for fixing that problem. Anyone else using AOL Browser give me some feedback.

Lost My Cookie, Purple/Yellow Text (aliens?)

          John -

I use the AOL browser, and, at least for the moment, have lost my cookies (my wife has pointed this out to me on numerous occasions). Also glad to hear someone else has the purple/yellow text problem too. That has changed, however - once I mouse-highlight or re-scroll the first post in a thread, all the rest of the posts in that thread come up yellow like they're supposed to (when the new server started the other day, I had to highlight or re-scroll EVERY post) to change the purple text to yellow. Maybe this will give you another clue as to the cause. Thanks -

          John

            More AOL Feedback

            John -

Since I posted the above, left the board, and came back (refreshing the page after getting back on), I have my cookie back. Also, I went to the home page as you suggested and the text colors there are white and yellow - no purple problem there as I have here.

Re: AOL Browser, Colors OK, now what?

                Ol' Geezer and others,

OK, this is an important piece of information. You use the AOL browser and your colors are yellow on black with no problems. What version of AOL Browser are you using?

What Version are others with the color problem using? There has to be a difference somewhere, I need to pin point what it is.

The page coming up blank is not limited to AOL or Netscape or I.E. users. It is a server problem. If you get the blank page wait 3 or 4 minutes and try again. It has been happening to me also. I reported it to the powers that be and they will have to solve it.

                    Terry,

Check the version number of your browser, and post it. It will be found under the "Help" button, and the "About ???" selection. It should tell you all of the information about that browser as to official name, and version number. Maybe we can narrow this down.

John -- I am using AOL 4.0, Win98 version 148.38 (32-bit). I uninstalled AOL 5.0 because I like the older desktop better. I also occasionally use Netscape Communicator 4.51, and note no difference.

                          Ol' Geezer,

If I remember right your cookies and colors are working alright. You had a problem with printing the pages where your color printer printed yellow on white paper. Kinda hard to read.

So now we know that both AOL versions 4 and 5 report having some users setups working alright.

                            Printing Messages

                            John --

When I print messages off the Discussion Board, they always come out with yellow print. I've always thought this is "normal." Should it print black automatically?

The way I get the discussion board is via http://216.172.89.9/discussion.htm

If I use the address given in the "Important message" at the top of the board (http://216.172.89.9/cgi-bin/config.cgi), I get a blank screen.

What address should I be using?

(my browser is Netscape Navigator 4.61)
