    1970 Shifter Lever Installation?

Can this installation be possible from inside the car thru the console plate?
And is there only one pin or bolt that holds the lever in place?
The lever has only one hole in it that faces the front and the rear of the car.

    Greg-----

Yes, the shifter (control) ASSEMBLY can be installed from inside the car. In fact, that's usually the best and easiest way to do it. Of course, the console plate and upper and lower shift boots have to be first removed. The console does NOT need to be removed.

The shifter assembly is attached to the frame-mounted bracket with a single bolt. Check this bolt carefully for damage. It's the same bolt as one of the long small block exhaust manifold bolts. This bolt does NOT face "front and rear" of the car, though; it faces side-to-side.

If, for some reason, you are talking about the shifter lever ALONE, that cannot be replaced with the shifter ASSEMBLY installed in the car. You have to first remove the assembly from the car, replace the lever, and then re-install the shifter assembly as described above. This can all be done from inside the car EXCEPT the disconnection/connection of the shifter rods from the transmission.

      Joe,

Only the 1 bolt or pin holds the shifter lever to the shifter assembly?

Is the shifter assembly easily accessable,or does other parts need to be removed to gain access?

The shifter LEVER is retained to the control assembly by a single clevis pin (and associated special retainer) which is oriented "fore and aft" relative to the car.

The complete shifter assembly is relatively accessible. As I described in the first post, it is removed by first removing the console trim plate/upper boot, removing the lower boot, disconnecting the shifter rods at the transmission levers and, finally, removing the one bolt that secures the shifter assembly to the frame-mounted bracket. Then, the entire assembly, including rods, can lifted up and out from inside the car.

As an alternative, the rods can also be removed at the control assembly. I don't do it that way, but it can be done.

          Joe,
          Thanks you.
Would that require adjustment of the shifter linkage when the assembly is reinstalled?

It probably won't, but it's not beyond the realm of possibility.
