    69 sidepipe installation

    Hi

I hate to open old wounds, (louver trim/sidepipes etc) but I would actually like to add factory sidepipes to my 69. It's obviously had some sort of pipes fitted before as the bottom edge of the front fender behind the wheel has been trimmed although you cant see it with the rocker mouldings in place.

My question is; can I fit factory pipes without having to trim the fiberglass tabs which cover the ends of the frame side rails and are still in place?

I think I heard that the factory trimmed these pieces but that it's not strictly neccessary. Also any ideas as to where to get the best price on a set of sidepipes & mufflers,I prefer to buy a complete kit if possible as it cuts down on the shipping costs

    regards from England Steve

PS. I've got louver trim too!

    Hi Steven:

Yes to your question, you can install 69 side exhaust without t******* the tabs, in most cases a little interference will occur,( between body and pipe ) and eventually wear from this interference will take it's toll in that area. You can expect to pay $3,000 for a set with tax and you will still have a considerable shipping cost to you, given your location. There is a fellow in New Jersey, I believe, that restores and sells the covers for about half what you would have to pay for new ones and his work is excellent, you could then have any vendor put together the pipe "kit" for you, there aren't that many parts involved. E mail me if you or anyone else would like his phone number. Best Wishes to Jolly Ol'

Plus, you might make inquiry to Tom Falconer, Claremont Corvettes, to see what pieces are already in-country.... Of course, you realize that a detectable owner/dealer inspired option addition/deletion qualifies the car for a full deduction on that item in concours judging, right?

        Thanks Jerry/Jack

Thanks all for the helpful suggestions. Jack I'm not too worried about the judging, just like the noise!

        Regards Steve
