    64 roadster body lift

I have reviewed the Nolan workbook and video on body lift and have some questions. I would like to know if I can lift my 64 roadster body with the doors on? Do I still need to support the rear of the body with cable or ?. I was thinking of modifying my dolly to support the rear body area. Has anyone tried this? Thanks for your help.

I would not attempt it without a very firm and tightly mounted brace between the upper door hinge(s) and the door latch mounting place. That means the doors have to come off.

Just to add to response the rear section once on the body cradle will need some adjustable support to the rear body mounts to insure the door gap is maintained. I'm assuming you are going to body work and paint the body with doors on as was originally done while on cradle.

Let me start off saying that I have read the other responses, and I have no disagreement with them.

I did my body off with the doors on and the rear of the body supported with an adjustable strap. With the adjustable strap, I was able to maintain the door to body gaps. Once on the dolly, I rigged up a support for the rear of the body to maintain the door alignment.

I found you need to support the strap where is comes over the edge of the body at the rear because it can start to deform the body back there. There's a lot of weight on that strap.

Ty, you dont need to remove the doors, as long as you keep them LATCHED while moving the body. Once it's on the dolly, you need to support the nose and rear sections. Either with a jackstand and blocks or some kind of extension on the dolly itself. The two things I dont like about Nolands dolley is there is no support for the rear or the nose. It can be modified for support on both sides without much hassle. I would do the major body work with the body on the frame and then detail it up while on the dolly.
