C4 National Level Judging for exterior paint

    Simple question....

On the doors of my C4 I have my initials as nautical flags. These measure 3/4"x 3/4" and there are three flags. They have been on the car for 19 years.

In the Judging Manual, there is mention of mandatory deduction for pinstriping.

The question is at a National Event: Will I receive a total deduct, will the car be disqualified, or do I leave the little decals on and live with a minor deduction to the Body Paint category.

At the last local NCRS show, she did a 98.5 I don't want to show up at a National Event and upset the Judging Team.

    Oliver -

Based on the recently-issued guidelines for paint, it would get a 100% deduction (45 & 40 points) for Body Paint - "The presence of any custom paint modifications which shall include lettering (any media), pinstriping, race car numbers, race-style stripes, flames, or any other non-factory-inspired additions. Total deduction for Originality and Condition." Don't know if there's any level of discretion involved here.

To confirm, you can always e-mail or call Roy Sinor and ask for his thoughts.

This is an example of where chapters do not do their members any favors by not abiding by the standard deductions. Many owners have been treated leniently in chapter judging and received a shock when they proceeded to regionals or nationals. All levels of meets should follow the Judging Reference Manual standard deductions. We faced a similar situation at our chapter meet two weeks ago where I had to explain the total deduction to the owner.
