Re: Tar removal undercarriage - best advice !!

Keith. I used a heat gun and a putty knife to get most of it off the under body. To clean it the best dissolver of the tar was Xylol. It is readily available and not near as flammable as Kerosene. I used chemical gloves and the course Scotchbrite. I let it soak on and then lightly scrubbed the surface. This removed the residue and it was down to bare glass.

The tar I had what about 3/8 inch thick and the whole process took about three weeks. Two to three hours a day was all I could take.

I have used mineral spirits, leaves no residue, and seems to work fine. Also I have purchase a plastic putty knife that I use, thus no scratches. Also those nylon mesh pads work good too.
