C2 GM Part Number

I have a GM parts bag with the number 3983037. Its a castle nut and it looks like it may be for the outboard spring bolt which holds the cushions. The part number in my AIM is different it shows 9418843. Can someone confirm this for me.

Mike,
3983037 is listed as a 9/16-18 UNF special hex slotted nut. I don't think that specific part number existed during C2 production. Joe L. would know the specific applications best.

Here's the deal: GM #9418843 was the castle nut used in PRODUCTION for the rear spring end bolt application for 1964 through 1982 Corvettes. This nut was also available in SERVICE until August, 1978 when it was discontinued and replaced by GM #125258. That nut was, in turn, discontinued in August, 1984 and was replaced by the GM #3983037.

The GM #3983037 is actually a group 6 part which has been catalogued since the early 70s for front ball joint applications. It became the SERVICE replacement for the earlier rear spring end bolt nut.

The GM #3983037 is still available in SERVICE. Also, it is the nut supplied with the GM #14029851 rear spring unit package. In this use, 2 GM #3983037 are supplied in a small plastic bag with 2 GM #3910701 retainers and 2 GM #103387 cotter pins.

And, that's the story of the GM #3983037.

Joe, you never cease to amaze me with your knowledge. Just how in heck did you know that? Do you have to research these things or is it all in your head available whenever you need it? Just when I think I know a thing or two about Vettes....
