Looking at my 1970 owners manual I noticed on the first page that the original part number for the owners manual had a change made in ink. The original Part No. 3970667 had the last 7 in the number sequence with a mark through the number replaced by a hand written 6. I have had my 70 owners manual since I took delivery of my new 70. Any other 70 owners have a change like this of their orignal owners manual?

Re: 1970 Owners Manual
Jim,
Funny you mention that. I bought my 70 from the original owner and the exact same thing occurred. Until now I thought the original owner changed the 7 to a 6 but I guess that wasn't the case. Seems like someone in St. Louis must have done that. My VIN is #14803. Is yours a late car as well.??? The first edition service manuals were part number 667 so maybe they ran out of 666 manuals and had to use the 667's.- Top

Re: 1970 Owners Manual
Jim,
There are no second edition manuals for 1970 that I have ever seen, but I was aware of the two different part numbers (666 and 667) for the first editions. It is interesting that both are cars are July built. Thanks for clearing up my mystery written "6". It would be nice to see if there are more people out there w/ the same situation.
My manual has a 1/2 card as the original owner sent it in and got the owners kit etc. which I have. The original owner who is a friend told me that the Owners manual was original to the car but honestly I doubted that because of the handwritten "6". I guess I owe him an apology.- Top

Re: 1970 Owners Manual
Glad your friend surrendered his Corvette Owner Card when he sold you his Corvette. When I sent in my card from the owners manual I was glad that I was sent previous issues of Corvette News for 1970 and not just starting my subscription. I still have them all. Maybe someone will post the information as to why the pen and ink change was made. For this to be done there had to be a reason.- Top

Re: 1970 Owners Manual
Jim, my car's original manual shows part number 3970666 on the first page with no strike-out or correction, just after the card insert for Corvette News. The perforated stub for the magazine is missing. My car was very late...built July 30.- Top

Re: 1970 Owners Manual
Ben the information and tear off to send in for a subscription to Corvette News and the Corvette Owner Card was the first page inside the the cover of the owners manual. The Corvette Owner Card is a credit size card plastic card that was sent to the new owner when the tear off was sent in. The owners name and the serial number of the Corvette were imprinted on the card. My 68 card also included the key numbers. Order blank for manuals is not the same thing.- Top

Re: 1970 Owners Manual
Believe it or don't!
After I managed to locate the original owner's manual and some other material related to my car in the early 90's, I wanted to get some service manuals. I decided I would take a shot, and just copy the service manual order blank out of the back of the owner's manual and send it to Helm like I had bought the car new yesterday...Dang, if they didn't send me the manuals (Chassis Service Manual, Overhaul Manual). Brand new originals from the original supplier...made me very happy.
I can't remember getting anything from them saying the prices had increased, so I assume I got the manuals for 1970 prices.- Top

Re: 1970 Owners Manual
Jim,
My #14803 is a July 8th car as well. Apparently our cars were built the same day. Maybe we have a 1 day thing here. If you would be willing to email me your address I will make a copy of my revision and send it to you. Might be fun just to compare the two.- Top

Re: 1970 Owners Manual
Dave the St Louis factory was really putting out some Corvettes back in July of 1970. My trim label has G08 stamping. Wonder what the daily production level was. I bought my car on August 18th near Dallas so it did not have to be shipped to far. Saw a transport with new Corvettes going down I-40 this afternoon going west. Thought it unusual that 120 miles west of Nashville the transport was only partially loaded, usually seem them loaded with new Corvettes going west on I-40.- Top
