    C2 Rear spring link cushions

There has been some talk of late regarding changing the rear spring link cushions to improve ride and height. When changing the cushions, is it best to change all the related hardware as well?

As usual, thank you for your help.

    Regards,

    Kurt

With regard to restoring ride height, the cushions are the only items that compress with age and change the height in the rear. I gained about 1 1/2" after putting the new ones in. The other related parts on my car were just lightly surface rusted, I cleaned them up, put a light coat of oil on them and re-installed them.

The Chevrolet Service Manual instructs that the spring end bolts should be replaced whenever they are removed from the car for any reason. I think that this is a good practice to follow and I do so, myself.

You can purchase a kit from GM or vendors like Dr. Rebuild which includes ALL of the parts associated with the spring end bolts under GM #14029851. This includes the cushions, end bolts, all retainers, and castle nuts to do one car. You can choose to replace the various retainers, or not, but the cushions, bolts and nuts are best all replaced at the same time.
