Sometimes it never matters, Marc. You can wish everyone to have a nice day and there's bound to be someone here that still won't like it. TBarr #24014

        Hey Joe...

...since you're such a big gingerbread fan you should off you '69 and consider a '58 or '63! Duke

          Wanna Switch to Luggage Racks...

...just kidding. When I got my '69 last year it had both louver trim and a luggage rack. The louver trim was no big deal but it can "grow" on ya and I too like 'em (except for having to replace the "rubber" nuts).

As far as the luggage rack, goes I've watched previous posts and am resigned to the fact that I can't fill in the holes permanetly. So, given I don't need it 99.999% of the time, I'm working on "plugs" that can at least cover the holes nicely and when I do need the rack, remove 'em and put it back on. Anyone else tried something like this? I'd like to get your thoughts or ideas?

I have seen one silver 1970 cover the luggage rack holes with black plugs. Maybe he will e-mail you off board with his source, or perhaps someone else knows.

              Re: 69 side fins

I have added these to my 69 vette and I think they look great. I have also added the PO2 option of the hub caps. I would like to add as many of the options available as I can. Also, in 69 there was a four hole luggage rack which is available now, through some NOS suppliers but these are very expensive.

Louver Trim History (was Re: 69 side fins)

                Hi All,

I thought I'd post a bit of side louver trim history I ran across this year. While attending a coupe of local car shows with my '69, I had the ooportunity to be parked next to one of the '69 Corvette Brouchure cars. It just so happens that this car is actually a '68 Monaco Orange 427/390 auto coupe that was fitted with most of the upcoming '69 goodies by GM. The current owner has extensive documentation to back up the originality of this car.

The point of interest, is that the painted areas of the side louver trim on this car were BODY COLOR (Monaco Orange, in this case), matching the picture on page 11 of the '69 Corvette Brochure.

Additionally, for those that might want to know more, the two auto trans interior pictures on pages 6 & 7 are also of this car. For these pictures, the car was fitted with a '69 steering column, instrument cluster bezel, and console trim plate with the engine information. Interestingly, it did not have '69 door panels, nor the dash pockets on the passenger side. The owner said the dash pockets were air brushed into the original photo. As can be seen in other photos in the brochure GM added the Stingray emblems to this car, as well as retrofitted the '69 rear panel and tail lamps. Overall, it had an interesting mix of '68 & '69 parts. Most passers-by thought it was a '69.

                  Joe P.,

Did the owner give any info as to how he acquired the car, condition it was in etc>??? For me that is one of the most interesting things about the Corvette hobby, finding the history /background on cars . It seems this car would make a good candidate for a magazine article.

kenny-wondering how my 69 would have looked with fathom green louvers :)

                    Jerry-----

Please don't do that! You don't want to pull an "Ol' Geezer" on me, do you? At least with respect to side-pipes, I fully realize that my opinion is in the EXTREME MINORITY. In fact, I don't know of an option that EVER attracted more attention or contributed more to Corvette lore than sidepipes. So much so, that folks with year models which were never available with side pipes add them because they just have to have a "piece of the action". In fact, I'm very glad that there are Corvettes with sidepipes; like them or not, they are an original option and not a tacky aftermarket piece, and they do add character and "diversity" to the cars. I just wouldn't want them on one of my cars. Contrary to what some folks might think, that DOES NOT MAKE THEM BAD.

As far as the louver inserts go, it seems that reaction and opinion is mixed. I never really thought of them as too controversial, though. A very "low key" item which some folks don't even realize was a option. In any event, Chevrolet hasn't kept them in the parts catalog for over 30 years because they're a "dog" and no one wants them. And, its not because this is old stock that they can't move. The last set of these that I saw were in new-style GM boxes with laser-printed part numbers. So, I expect GM is still getting them from the vendor. I might also add that, in my opinion, if there is one car that "works" with the louver inserts, it's a black one. If Chevrolet had limited their installation of louver inserts to BLACK 69s only, my opinion of them might be different today.
