    C1 exhaust choices-"crossover?"

I currently have a crossover pipe on my '56 265/225 dual quad which is incorrect for judging purposes. I am toying with changing it back to the two piece straight pipes but my mechanic tells me that the engine runs better with the crossover pipe. The points are probably not significant enough to be concerned with, I just like things to be as correct within reason as possible. If I switched back to original two piece exhaust will I be dissappointed in how the engine runs? What performance differences should I expect? Thanks.

There is a small improvement in full throttle performance with the crossover. It is debatable if it is detectable at Full throttle with mufflers in place, and not at all likely you would notice it in normal driving from a performance standpoint. It will however produce a louder sound in the exhauxt, although I can't quantify that.

      I remember an old article

which suggested the crossover pipe was worth about 15 hp.
