    Not everyone is into restoration

I ran across this article in a new Car Magazine called MPH. I created a PDF file out of it, and I need to warn you it is a large file. Dial-up users beware.

I think everyone will find it interesting. Click on the link.

The display keeps blanking out on me, plus it said there were errors in the file type.

Hmm... I think the American version of this guy

has a farmsted just a couple miles north east of Cumberland MD.... At least his collection resides inside decent buildings.

I found it very interesting and reminded me of a fellow near my hometown. He worked for IBM back in the 50's and won so many awards for his ideas that he retired early a very rich man. Beautiful home and owned acres of land on the side of a mountain. Something happened along the way and this guy crossed that line. When I met him he was living like a hermit in a run down shack of a house. I went there because I needed some parts for my 55 Chevy and heard he had some old Chevy's in the woods. I guess he liked me or maybe my car because he let me go back on his property. What a treat! He collected Chevys all years and models but only Chevy's! I tried to buy a 57 sedan delivery but he would not hear of it. He did sell me a rear bumper for mine for 50.00 so I was happy. I was even happier I got a tour of his place. When I asked what he was going to do with them he simply said .." Collect them..." Then with what looked like a smile on his face he said his goal was to collect two of every year Chevy made. I never did figure out if he was kidding me or serious. Later when I told a few people where I got the bumper they said I was crazy for going up there. Said he was a nut and I was lucky he didn't take a shotgun to me.

          John:

Great aticle, really fun to read.

Just goes to show, they are still out there, and like most of us, hope we can find something like that ourselves.

It's pretty much the dream of many of us, find the "barn", and find the car.

Unfortunately, he won't sell any of them!

          Regards,

          Rich

Sounds like "compulsive hoarding disorder." It is a particularly strong subset of OCD, which is not treatable with tradional OCD medication. My step-brother suffers from this. Coincidentally, he sports the same "Jesus" look. He lived with my step-mom for years, collecting every sort of junk both inside and outside the house, until my step-mom finally kicked him out when the health department was about to condemn the place. With him out, we were able to clean the place out. You wouldn't believe what we found, and threw out. You couldn't walk through the house, except through narrow one-foot wide passageways between junk stacked to the ceiling. Old newspapers, pizza boxes, etc., stacked neatly five feet high, etc. Found 60 broken vacuum cleaners in the attic, which he had apparently "salvaged" out of dumpsters behind a repair shop.
