I am planning to resleeve my master cylinder and wheel cylinders as part of my restoration. I know many have used White Post with good results but they use brass and are expensive @ $80 pr wheel cylinder. Karp's Brake Service in CA uses SS. My understanding is that brass is easier to work with but SS offers better corrosion resistance. I'd be interested in pros and cons of both and any recommendations for providers.

Re: Brakes-Resleeving-Brass or SS
I faced this same decision for the master cylinder on my 68 and after reading all th epros and cons on this list and others, I went with stainless steel because I read several posts that indicated brass will corrode and since I don't drive my car that much it was a serious consideration. I had mine done by a firm called Apple Hydraulics, again based on recommendation of several others who used them, and so far I am very satisfied. They turned MY correct numbers matching master cylinder around in very quick time (week to 10 days)and the price was under $100.00.- Top

Re: Brakes-Resleeving-Brass or SS
Clare,
White Post is the only company I sent my master cylinder and calipers to and had no problems with leakage.Every year or two something was always leaking.I had them sleeved and like the sun rising in the morning they inevitably would leak.
White Post did my work 3 1/2 years ago. The car has the same usage as before and it sat in the same enviorment. I have not had ANY leakage at all. They also have a one day turnaround.Further, the repairs carry a lifetime guarantee. As long as you still own the car and can provide a receipt for the work done.
This was their policy when i dealt with them, check to confirm this if you chose to deal with them.- Top

Re: Brakes-Resleeving-Brass or SS
I think it's a 'toss' between SS and brass since we use these cars so little (typically a weekend warrior application). A good sleeve job with brass will probably outlive your use of the car!
A little known vendor I've used who does EXCELLENT work on master cylinders and wheel cylinders is Brake Equipment & Warehouse out of Minneapolis. They give discounts to 'car club' members (just ask for it when you place your order) and turn parts fast & correctly (last set of four wheel cylinders I sent came back within 8-days). Why not give a call at (800) 233-4053 and ask for the 'shop'.... I find they do SS sleeve work at the price others charge for brass!- Top

Re: Brakes-Resleeving-Brass or SS
White Post has restored both master cylinders and proportioning valves for me, and all I can say is it they exceeded all my expectations.
You could frame them the results.
If you want the best use White Post.
If all you want is to have the M/C rebuilt send them out to a jobber.
If you deside to use White Post and have any questions, ask for Billy.- Top
