Does anyone have a picture or can direct me to a picture of the front leaf spring mounting bracket that connects the front leaf spring/traction bar to the frame. my 58 mounting bracket was welded to the frame on drive side outside and had to be cut off to change the bushing. is that the way it is supposed to be. the bracket also had the number 53-64 on it. can anyone take a look at their 58 and give me a heads up on the mounting bracket. maybe some makes repacement brackets. thanks.

Traction Masters
Chris, Vintage Traction Master traction bars use a heavy cast rear mounting saddle which mounts underneath the rear shock plate using longer than stock u-bolts. The actual bars, which resemble the strut rods used on later model solid axles, have cast ends with "M-1" designation and extend underneath the leaf spring from the rear saddle to the front spring perch. The front mount is welded to the outside of the spring perch. IF you drop the front spring perch you shouldn't have to cut them off to install new leaf spring bushings. Traction Masters work great, especially on the earlier solid axles. Only a minor deduct if you are having car judged.
Chuck at Traction Master can provide new bushings and hardware as needed. If someone wants a new set made they can do that too.

Re: Traction Masters
Here's a photo of an original set of Traction Masters that were installed on my '57 40 years ago, with the front brackets welded to the spring hangers; left them on when I restored it; very simple and effective device that 100% cured axle hop and didn't affect roll stiffness or ride harshness. I remember installing them on all my shoebox cars in those days, and on my blown Buick nailhead-powered '53 Corvette (in 1959)
