    L-72 C/S pulley bolt torque

    Hello All,

The '66 AIM states 25-35 lbs/ft. torque for the bolts attaching the C/S pulley. This seems a bit low to me as the optional 327 (L-79) calls for 60-90 lbs/ft torque.

Is 25-35 lbs/ft. torque enough? I just want to be sure.

    As usual, thank you,

    Kurt

    Kurt----

You're comparing "apples and organge". The bolt torque shown in the AIM and specified in the service manual for the PULLEY TO BALANCER bolts is 25-35 lb/ft for BOTH small block and big block engines. These bolts are 3/8"-24 for both engines.

The 60-90 lb/ft specification for the L-79 is for the CENTER bolt. For small blocks this bolt is a 7/16"-20.

There is no corresponding spec for the big block in the AIM because, I believe, for the big block the bolt was Tonawanda-installed for 1966. The big block center bolt is a 1/2"-20 and is torqued at 85-105 lb/ft.
