    Founders OPs Check

How does it differ from the regular OPs check. I'm torn between Flight judging or getting a Founders OPs check out of the way at the Regional next month. And yes I've ordered the Judging Ref manual.

    Kevin,

Founders OP's is not as strict as operation check for flight judging. As an example if you have an aftermarket radio that works you are good. Don't have a Delco battery? No problem as long as whatever is there will start your car. The emphisis is on operation, not originalty. When I went thru Founders OPs in Steamboat Spgs. Colo. several years ago, a judge told me he passed a car with a wrist watch duct taped over the non-working clock in a '65. Go for it and have fun, just make sure everything works. Good luck! Bill

Wow that's great, my car passed a chapter OPS check with flying colors. The windshield squirters even worked, I have never used them in the 20+ years myself or my dad owner the car. On some advice from friends I took a mouthful of water to prime it and it worked, this was while I was getting gas to attend the Local Chapter Flight judging, You got to love California cars.

Glad you didn't confuse the gas with the water. And congrats again on your recent Top Flight!

Kevin, now you got me going. I think I'll go for the Founders also in conjunction with the Boston Regional / National. I may have to use the GPS to ensure 500 miles though. Congratulations you've got a great car with great history.

Well looks like I'm going to flight my car this year and get on the Founders band wagon next year. I'll start at the Local Chapter then West Regional ending up on a monster road tour to New Orleans. This is going to be fun. Thanks guys for all the votes of confidence.

Kevin, GO FOR IT! Enjoy the car while learning about it. Meet new friends and see new places. Just look at the mileage points you will get going to New Orleans.

Brian, you will have to go somewhere else and start to get your 500 miles since you live so close to Boston.

I have done two road tours and had a blast! Did GA to Lake Placid and NC to St Louis. It was worth the time and money just to see and hear some of the comments from members North of the Mason Dixon Line who went to the Grand Ole Opry. Me thinks they had a little trouble understanding English

There will be tales to tell for years about the experiences you have. Like the tour that went through St Louis about 15 or so years ago. They saw the Arches three times from the same deadend street. Or the back door falling off a trailer and luggage and clothes all over the highway. Or meeting the Left Coast tour that was supposed to wait at a rest area, going the opposite direction at 75 mph. Parking lot parties that you will remember a lifetime.

If time allows I may be able to use the 2004 road tour miles. Founders needs to be done within 3 years?

The road tour co-ordinators will help!

All you have to do is sign up for the road tour and contact your co-ordinator, Kevin. You'll find the folks helpful as all get out for Founders folks and they'll be 'creative' in telling you where to meet & join up with a given leg of the tour in order to get the 500-mile requirement under your belt. Have FUN because doing the Founders Award is a BLAST!

Then there was the 'fun' with Howard....

Savvy pilot, road tour 'master' co-ordinator, Howard Loomis, getting us 'lost' in downtown Reno while enroute to Monterey with our leg of the caravan looking out the window to visually spot Harrah's and everyone barking directions on their CB's while we played indians circling the wagon train during at the height of the Hot August Nites festival... Sorry, you missed that fun, Dick!

I enjoy laughing WITH them because I WAS one of the 'indians' circling that wagon train and we all had a good laugh at dinner that night, including Howard and Barb!

That's great guys, I don't want to rush time but I can't wait! I'll be traveling 317mi from Burbank to Berkley in April piece of cake. When I picked up my car from Jerry B in AL I drove it right out of the shop by myself 1600mi to MI for the 50th. Hope there is a road tour going up to the regional next month, that way I can keep the speed down . Left to my own I just can't help myself and I'll make it in 5 hours.
