    C1 - Hardtop Receiver Filler

OK....Here's another question for those interested in details. When the factory installed the hardtop receivers, what exactly was the procedure? The backside of the fiberglass portion where the receivers go on my '59 looks like a horseshoe with two horizontal screw holes that will barely hold the back of the receiver. Plus...the one vertical carriage bolt which goes through the center of the receiver. Obviously the receivers were installed after the paint was applied so I assume the filler was not painted. Was the filler intended to be an anchoring point for the horizontal screws? How much filler was slopped in? When the convertible top/decklid vinyl tabs are in place, are you supposed to be able to see the unpainted filler?

This area looks kind of funky right now so I'm curious as to how it's SUPPOSED to look !
    Thanks,
    Brad

Brad, As hard as I try...

...I have no idea what you are talking about. The rear hard top attachment required drilling 3 holes in the deck lid for the 3 threaded anchors. They were held in place with a single washer and nut. If you are talking about soft top latches, they were held in place with two machine screws, however, when reading your post, I don't see where the filler tabs come into play. Help me...

      OK, Now I'm catching on...

...Sorry, the side receivers at the bottom of the quarter windows. I need another cup of coffee, then I'll try. Best, Dennis

These have me a little concerned as well. It appears that you mount the stud and bolt and then add resin and install the screws into the resin. They also appear to sit to high to match the door and deck chrome. When you finish this, what are the odds the hardtop will fit correctly?

          Brad,
I ended up getting shouldered bolts at the hardware store that fit the slot in the chrome piece and have flat heads that I ground to fit. I bent the chrome with a rubber clamp so it will sit in place and let the two side screws line up. They fit and look even with the other chrome. You will need the long nuts so you can tighten them. I found them in the threaded rod section of the hardware store. I'll wait until I fit my hardtop before I add the resin.
