Air Cleaner Lid Decal Removal

I am trying to replace my 327/350 HP air cleaner decal and I am having one heck of a time trying to get the old one off without scratching the chrome. Any suggestions?

What year and why are you trying to remove the original? A worm original is worth as much as a new reproduction.

Lacquer thinner and nothing sharper or harder than your finger nail.

It's a '68 and I wish I would have left it alone. I've seen pictures of a number of cars, darn nice ones, with somewhat tattered decals.

Roger, I used a heat gun on mine. It peeled right off without any problem.

Try brake cleanr. It should lift right off without damage to the chrome.

A little steam...I purchased one of those "euro" steam cleaners... and it worth every penny, it cleans and help on all of the difficult areas without harming the surface.

Upholstry guys etc use WD40 to remove old adhesives. I've used it for years. If it's too baked on try the laquer thinner.

Roger,

Try some 3M weather strip adhesive remover. You can buy it at any ACE Hardware store. Just keep wetting the edges and as someone else said use your finger nail and keep peeling back the edges.
