Does it matter if the casting number is upside down or right side up? I have the original for my 69 with a casting number of 5460346 but it is upside down. It seems that when ever I see one for sale with this casting number it is right side up. Could this difference be particular to different years of manufacture or is there really no rime or reason to the "inverted" casting numbers?

Re: day shift?
I don't know about the day or night shift -- Mark Gorney might. I hope he sees this posting.
I have seen enough of the "upside down" master cylinders in judging that it is no big deal.
There is a story about C3 master cylinders about a decade or 15 years ago in The Restorer. A member who used to work casting those units described the process. Nowhere was there mention of upside down casting numbers, but as I recall the story, the less experienced foundry workers got the job of changing the date codes, so anything is possible.Terry- Top
