Tips for carpet install !! C3

I am trying to install CARPET IN MY 69 CONV. I have a complete set of ACC carpet that I bought from Eklers. It come with NO INSTALATION INSTRUCTIONS AT ALL. I started in the back compartment. The molded carpet does not fit the rear fender wells good at all. Very poor fit, lots of bubbles between fender well and carpet, just not good at all. I can't get it to snug up if you know what I mean. Also what do you recomend for carpet glue? I need to glue the carpet to the bulkhead now that I finnaly have gotten it cut to fit.I will start on the front half tomorrow! Will this tighten up around the fender wells after some sun and warm weather? I laid all the pieces out in the sun at about 75 degrees hoping that would help make them more pliable but Not much. What ever upolstrey shop's get for this job it is well worth it.Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.I can't believe they ship a product like this out with not even some pointers let alone directions. Thanks again in advance.

Did my 70 convert in the fall.(ACC as well) I remember a little "boxed up memory" to the carpet. Once unfolded and laid out, it seemed to revert to the original shape. The piece with the piping across the back where the interior light is located fit terribly on mine. I don't think anyone's carpet is perfect. (The manufacturer's must be going for that authentic GM, N.Q.P. appearance ha..ha)

Do you have the original insulation or any insulation in the rear.(compartment deck, wells).Seem to remember ripping the thin padding off the back of the carpet on the well pieces. The original padding was in perfect condition and the carpet fit much better where I eliminated it from the carpet back. You have to be careful not to rip the coated backing of the carpet off with it.Good luck

I did have a lot of the original padding left. I went over it, Maybe I should take it or the new one out? THE NEW PADDING SEEMS ABOUT IMPOSSIBLE TO GET LOOSE FROM THE CARPET. Thanks for your help, i'm open to any and all suggestions. like I said I laid it out in the sun hoping it would get more pliable but did'nt seem to help much.

        Carpet

Tom you have to git rid of the old insulation also go rent a small steamer for steam cleaning it will make the carpet lay right in thats how the pros do it.

I use 3M spray adhesive for installing my carpet. They make a standard and heavy duty (sorry, don't remember the product numbers but the cans clearly spell it out) and the directions are quite simple. I did vary from the directions just a bit. You are supposed to spray both the item being glued and the area where it goes. You are then supposed to let it setup, like contact adhesive. I installed my carpet while the glue was still slightly tacky so that I could position and tweak its fit. Worked well.
