    65-327 block

I just looked at a supposedly 65-327 block, casting number 3956618, the pad # is as follows, TO408HN, is this a vette block? Thanks in advance, Dean #33398

    Re: 65-327 block

Two keys here, the "T" in the assembly stamp indicates an engine assembled in Tonawanda, New York. All Smallblock Corvette engines were assembled in Flint (Mich) and started with an F--- in '65. Secondly the only documented casting numbers I am aware of are the '870 (most common) and the '180 (somewhat uncommon)

      Dean -

The 3956618 casting was used as follows:

      '69 Camaro 302 cu. in. Z-28 4-bolt mains '69 Corvette 350 cu. in. 300hp & 350hp 4-bolt mains '69-'74 350 cu. in. All pass. cars (exc. Corvette) 2-bolt mains '69-'76 350 cu. in. Truck 2-bolt mains

Don't know what the stamped suffix means (someone else here will), but the "TO" prefix is Tonawanda Engine; all Corvette small-blocks were made at Flint Engine.

        Re: 65-327 block

One more piece of information that would have been helpful is the casting date. As I believe this was a short run block used only in 1969 models from December '68 through April '69 in 2 and 4 bolt mains. It replaced the "386" block (Jan-Dec '68)also a short run block. All used for 302, 327, and 350 cu. in. engines which have a common 4" bore.

The stamped number T0408HN indicated a Tonawanda built, on April 8th, 300hp 350cu. in. with Turbohydramatic trans for full size passenger car.
