    '69 capacitor

Next to the coil, there's a capacitor/resistor that I think was for radio static. Anyone have the part # on that and/or know a source for a replacement?

The original part was GM #1947452. It was discontinued in March, 1973 and replaced by GM #1852715. That part was discontinued about 10 years ago. I believe that this part is reproduced.

LICS now has all the midyear reproduction capacitors - don't know if any of them are the same as '69 or not.

          Re: '69 capacitor color

Don't know about the correct number, but the ends are a rust color.

The 1963-67 ignition coil capacitor was GM #1960958. For 1968 to at least 1972, it was GM #1947452. The 1947452 did have the "reddish" fiberboard seal on the pigtail end that Bob mentioned. I don't know how the 1960958 differed from the 1947452. My strong suspicion is that the difference was the length of the pigtail.

              Addendum

I find that later 1966 and all 1967 big blocks used the GM #1947452 ignition coil radio interference suppression capacitor. This is probably because the 66-67 big block coil bracket was similar to the one used for all 68+ Corvettes and, consequently, the pigtail length would need to be the same for all using that style bracket. So, if Long Island has the 1947452 in reproduction, then they have what 68-72 cars need, too.

                PS...

The dielectric end cover on original '452 capacitors wasn't always reddish in color.... Of the several hundred I've recovered from scrap yard cars over the years, perhaps 15% were darker (almost black) in color. Suggests, the folks at Delco Remy used different suppliers/sources for the fiber dieletric insulator surrounding the lead wire.
