    C1 drum brake restoration

I had three wheel cylinders that matched and one odd. I thought I might get lucky and have three originals. Turns out my wheel cylinders have been replaced along the way with non Delco parts, 3 Wagners and 1 unidentified. I haven't had any success finding NOS or rebuildable Delco Morraine cylinders so I'm just going to replace what I have with new parts. I need some help choosing brands/suppliers as to what's the best quality, etc. Same goes for the shoes.

Also would like to know/confirm the correct finishes, colors on some of the hardware as follows:

Brake shoe anchor pin: Cadmium or zinc plated?

Brake adjuster: Cad or zinc plated?

    Adjuster screw spring: Blue paint?

Rear shoe parking brake lever: Mine were painted gold but I have no idea if this was a correct original finish or not?

Parking lever strut spring: Blue paint?

Shoe hold down springs, cups, pins: Orange paint?

    Brake shoe return spring: Black?

Brake shoe spreader strut bar: ??

I bought the brake shoe hardware kit from Paragon that has the springs and hold down hardware and plan to refinsh with correct colored paints as necessary. I know this stuff isn't judged since the drums aren't pulled but want to do it right anyway! Their description of wheel cylinders do not claim to be correct for judging. What's the deal with the bleeder valve? Apparently there is an "original style" available for both original and replacement wheel cylinders and my understanding is this item IS judged.

Thanks for any info not covered in the TI and Judging Manual.

Clare, you might try Mary Jo Rohner's Corvette Parts. She has been in the bussiness for 25 years and has a comprehensive supply of NOS, used and correct reproduction parts. She has been very helpful getting parts to me in Australia promptly. Her web site is : www.vettegal.com or phone 858-451-1933.

Here is how I did my 54.
I had the orig shoes and wheel cly's recon by white post
            top notch
The harware kit - I got from werner - new springs
I wouldnt use 50 year old springs
Brake shoe anchor pin: yellow zinc or yellow cad
            Brake adjuster: silver zinc plated
my orig adjuster had 3 lines going around the body of the adjuster
Rear shoe parking brake lever: yellow zinc or yellow cad
Brake shoe return spring: Black? - yes - comes in the kit.
Brake shoe spreader strut bar: yello zinc or yellow cad

I did not use spring cups - the orig brakes did not use cups
I reused my orig shoe retainer springs - had those yellow cad
            I have some dig photos.
            Looks super orig
