My '68 convertible has the usual pillar rot on the lower driver's side, a condition that existed when I bought the car 14 years ago. The lower half of the VIN tag has rotted away, although the vehicle number is still identifiable, proving that it's a matching numbers car. The characters "S40XXXX" are all that remain with the "194678" prefix rotted away. Is there anybody that will duplicate these tags? I'm not trying to build a countfeit car, just fix a problem on a car that I'm going to keep, and I have some paperwork on the car. I'll be replacing the windshield and repairing the pillar rot and would like to address this problem at the same time. Thanks.

Re: '68 Windshield Pillar Rot & VIN Tag Destructio
Unless someone has recentently started doing so, the 68 up tags are not available. Mid year and solid axle tags have been available for years, but the price has gone North of $1,500 from what I understand.
Your only hope is a state issued tag and then that opens up another can of worms.Dick Whittington- Top

Russ-----
The only source that I am aware of is a firm called A. G. Backeast that is located in Connecticut. I don't know, for sure, if they do the 68+ VIN tags, or not. However, if they don't, I'm sure that they will know if anybody does. This firm has very strict requirements for producing VIN tags but, based upon your situation, I would think that you'll be able to "qualify". Don't expect it to be inexpensive, though. I can virtually guarantee you that it will cost a LOT more than what a VIN tag is seemingly worth. You can "dial-them-up" on the web at www.datatags.com If you call them, please post what you find out about availability and cost. FEEDBACK is a VERY IMPORTANT part of what makes a discussion board like this work. It gets forgotten too often. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
