I recently had a motor fall on me. Supposedly it is a '65 327. The number on the front block pad is CE8 30313. I understand that this means it is a replecement engine. Any info out there?

Re: CE Engine Number
Tom-----
Where are you posting from----your hospital bed? When a motor falls on you, it can put you in a "world of hurt". Big blocks are the worst, but a small block like this can do a lot of damage, too.
Anyway, CE prefix codes found on engine stamp pads denote an engine which was supplied as a warranty replacement or otherwise originally sold as a SERVICE engine assembly. As far as I know, such engine codes were never used for engines originally installed in cars on the GM assembly line. The digits which follow the CE code are, as far as I know, not decipherable given current lack of understanding of the coding system GM used for these engines.
More information regarding just what you have would be obtainable from the casting number and casting date usually found on the upper rear bellhousing flange of the engine. If you could provide that, I or someone else might be able to tell you more about it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Uncle Joe, accidents happen all da time....
even to me. Eons ago when removing the BB from my 68, used a cherry picker, had the motor high enough to roll the chassis back, was moving the pick w/motor to the garage, WHAM!!! The BB dropped, missed my foot by inches, spin on oil filter took the brunt, looked like an accordion, small dent in the pan, no bid deal, replaced the filter, hammered out the dent, toes ok. I wasn't as luck last summer, moving a winch, weight around 100-125lbs., had the chains and electrical chord wrapped around it, picked it up to move it, the weight shifted, dropped smack dead center on my right big toe. Now, that was a world of hurt. That baby swelled up like a balloon in a matter of minutes, crimson red. Three days later I ripped out the toe nail.- Top
