My early 59 is going for it's first PV attempt in Gonzale, LA in April. The hood release does not move back in on it's own after I pull it out. It takes a good push to get it back in. I tried a new reproduction cable and it does the same thing. Are the springs in the female part of the latch supposed to be strong enough to snap it back? Any advice and counsel will be greatly appreciated.

Re: 1959 hood latch question
When I thought I was going for my PV in Utah. I spoke with a judge who judged my car in 2000. He told me that the hood release should have no more than 1/2 inch play right to left when it is turned. I hope this helps.
good luck,

Re: 1959 hood latch question
Roy, thanks for the help. Please clarify: Do the springs in the female hood latches pull the cable back in after the hood is released? Mine don't and I am not sure what to try next. Have tried cable-eze, old cables, new cables, and so forth. The female latches snap up and down quite strongly, but they don't have enough force to pull the release handle back in. Thanks in advance.- Top

Re: 1959 hood latch question
Yes the latch springs pull the cable handle back. You may try looking to see that the cables are not binding ( sharp turns) disconnect the cable end stops so that the latch's are free and pull the handle in and out to see if it move in and out easy. Or set the cable end locks on so that you don't need to pull the handle so fare out to release the latch (I mean so that you "just" pull the handle out a "shorter" distance to release the latchs)- Top
