C3 Brake Caliper Rebuild

Does anyone have any recommendations of someone who rebuilds brake calipers for a C3? One of mine on my 1978 has developed a leak and I do not want to replace with aftermarket.

Caliper rebuilding is a very simple job. Two bolts, one or two bleeders, one piston with a rubber ring and a rubber boot. If you go slowly and carefully this job takes about an hour once it is off the car. Even someone with modest DIY skills can do this. The kit is cheap and plentiful. OTH, if you are having them sleeved in stainless steel, ignore the above.

Barry, one other quick comment. If one caliper is leaking, the other three are going to be right behind it. I would rebuild all four while I was at it. Also replace all the rubber hoses. When they get some age on them they have a history of causing all kinds of brake problems, such as no brakes on one wheel or brakes hanging on one wheel. It is also a good time to flush the old brake fluid out.

Vette Brakes did mine... I like the fact that they will put their identifying mark on the inside if you ASK for it to be done that way. They will also paint an appropriate color (flat black?) along with it. This is considered special handling or NCRS handling but it insures that there are no visible Vette Brakes marks on the caliper. They do a great job.

Thanks everyone! I am going to rebuild...er..um...have all of the claipers rebuilt, (I am the Anti-Mechanic so instead of trying and breaking other more costly things, like myself when my rebuilt brakes fail I will leave it to the experts), and update the entire system at the same time. Seems like there is a lot of good experiences with several NCRS members with Vette Brakes so I am going to use them.

While I am at it I am looking for a correct Master Cylinder, (1978), so if you have any sources I would greatly appreciate your advice. I am going to make a new posting for advice on locating a correct Master Cylinder. I will ask Vette Brakes when I call them but their website appears that they only sell reproductions.

Barry, Try Muskegon Brake, I bought a correct rebuilt master cylinder from them and they happened to put a correct cap on it too. Reasonable price and shipping. I know there are others but this gives you a start. I don't have their phone or website handy, its at the garage but a google search will bring them up.
