    C-1 exhaust liner tubes

My '60 FI Corvette has steel tube liners in the rear panel (in Noland Adams book, they're referred to as "housing assembly" #3762442 RH & #3762441 LH), but I've only been able to locate fiberglass replacements. Does anyone know a source for new steel sleeves?

Some suppliers are saying there were ONLY fiberglass sleeves, but this is a one-owner car and I know that I have steel liners. Recently retired, I'm just beginning this restoration project.

Love this resource... I read it almost every night! Thanks for any suggestions you can offer. Lee

        Re: C-1 exhaust liner tubes

I use to write a lot about 58 to 62 but it been years. I looked at an article I wrote and to day may be incorrect but!!
Some early 58 didn't have any tubes GM used a flat fiberglass panel glued and screwed to hide and keep tail pipe heat out of the truck area.
Later re-designed truck area added pipe tube housings assy. #3762441 L/S and #3762442 R/S sheet metal.
But to day many vetts are missing them do to it rusting away. My 60 Corvette has them also , Many dealers think the 56 to 57 tubes were used on all 58 to 60.
The other drawing I wrote about was the 58 Mechanic's Bench which even to day some people don't know about or the trunk lid early , mid and late design. I don't see many questions on this forum asking about body changes ( few C1 owners on here).

Roy, Thanks for the info. Now I need a source for the metal tubes, or I'll have to make my own. Or... maybe I could be on the lookout for a 1-ton or larger truck drive shaft in the Wal-mart parking lot! :^)

How about a stainless steel homemade version? That would keep the rust at bay!

Missed seeing the picture you sent... Guess it didn't come through. Thanks again. Lee

              Re: C-1 exhaust liner tubes

My very late '58 doesn't show signs of having had the metal tubes. I looked for the holes where the screws would have been in the trunk and at the outlet and there's no sign of them. I also noticed the drawing in my '58 AIM was redrawn late '58 so I assume it's actually a '59 model year drawing. My '58 also has the "rail road track" rear bumper brackets and the fiberglass panels that screwed to the trunk floor to fill out the quarter panel areas.

Anyone out there have a '58 that has either the fiberglass exhaust tubes or the metal exhaust tubes that they believe are original to the car?

Roy, can you tell me a little more about the trunk lid design changes? Any other body changes you'd be interested in sharing?
